A friend of ours who's a math teacher at a local day school has started a blog which features math lessons from each week's parsha (Torah portion). Check out [livejournal.com profile] parshamath!

For those who like to read about cooking, check out [livejournal.com profile] midweekmeal. It's a fun new kosher cooking blog written by a friend's brother (culinary school grad who works at a local restaurant) and his roommate, who apparently is similarly food-oriented.

After a few frustrating cases of being unable to find things, I decided maybe there is a point to tags after all. So I've gradually been going through and back-tagging all my entries. Might not be entirely consistent b/c this was over a period of several weeks, in bits and pieces... but, finally, done. Yay!

Found out over the weekend that an old friend has a blog ridiculing discussing oddities in classic comics. Fun reading, for those who like that sort of thing... see feed at [livejournal.com profile] whatwerethinkin.

A friend points out that if a friend of yours creates a DreamWidth account, and imports their journal... and you've ever commented on their journal... it creates an account for you, too. Without approval or permission. So if someone looks for you on DW, it'll look like you're active there, though you may not have ever used the site at all, or have any desire to. Seems rather creepy.

1. Reply to this post, and I will pick five of your icons that I want to hear about.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon glee...

Surrender

With all the holiday-related nuttiness, it's seeming less and less likely that I'll be able to catch up on LJ. I'll try to read through when I can find some free time (ha!), but for the moment assume I haven't seen anything since... um... Thursday night, I think. So if there's anything you think I should know, please tell me. Thanks! And, sorry about the time shortage...
vettecat: (cat mail)
In case anyone's been wondering about the cats-seeking-home I posted about recently, just got an update:

Thanks everyone for your concern and help in finding a home for Jack and Sophie. I just wanted to let you know that we did find a great home for them after all! They'll be living their golden years in a loving new home in rural Maine with lifelong cat lovers.

Thanks again and best regards

Yay!

Best wishes for a wonderful day!

And how dare the site go down just when I was waiting to post... razzlesnazzzafrass...

This was forwarded to me by a friend; if anyone's able to help, please let me know, and I'll connect you.

Please excuse the mass email. I'm desperate to find a new home for my 2 cats (see pictures). Many of you have met them and know that Jack is a handsome gray and white (tuxedo) cat who loves attention and Sophie is an extremely petite brown Maine Coon cat who makes friends with everybody she meets. My stepmom has been taking care of them for the last 5 years however is no longer able to to do because of her travel schedule. Unfortunately [name] is extremely allergic so we cannot take them from her and my immediate family is also unable to provide homes for them. My stepmom feels that they would not thrive in a shelter situation and that the only humane thing to do is euthanize them if we can't find good homes. (She's set the deadline at August 1 so this is very time sensitive).

I would be so grateful if each of you please forwarded this email to everyone and anyone you know who might be interested in taking either or both of them. The cats are currently in NYC but we are willing to bring them anywhere to a good home. My stepmom will provide all their stuff and any information to help care for them.

Again, please forgive me for reaching out so broadly with this urgent matter and thanks in advance for your help.

For those who'd like to keep up with the latest news in the performing and visual arts, check out [livejournal.com profile] artsjournalrss. (Came across the site recently, and thought, "wow, this is interesting, wish there were an easier way to keep up..." Voila!)

This will be of particular interest to those with children, but is generally amusing and well-written. (Scroll down past the picture, if that's not immediately obvious.) Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] thnidu for the link!

(I was going to create a feed for the author's blog, but apparently someone beat me to it by a few hours - it's at [livejournal.com profile] 6packblog.)

For those of you who haven't heard, LJ is restoring the fandom-related journals. Yay, [livejournal.com profile] fandom_counts!

For those who haven't heard yet (taken from [livejournal.com profile] filkertom's post):

If you, like me, took the LJ Mojo test last month... well, the graphics for the test result have been replaced by some really, really disgusting stuff. As in, scatalogical, not work safe. I believe the term is "Goatse", from a defunct shock site. So go back and get rid of it, although you may want to wait to do it from home. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] kshandra for the heads-up.

ETA: Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] ataniell93 for linking up with the shmott guy who did it. You can access your info from the meme there. So can everybody else. His attitude seems to be, "We thought it was cool, and f--- you for being stupid enough to trust someone like me."

For those who are interested, I've added a syndication link to [livejournal.com profile] bobeggleton's lovely wife, [livejournal.com profile] mplumridge. Wheee!
vettecat: (dreamworld)
I've just added a feed for A Certain Artist's "Art du Jour" blog - for the past couple months, he's been trying to post (and maybe sell) a painting every day. It's fun to see what he comes up with! If you're interested, check out [livejournal.com profile] bobeggleton.
vettecat: (ibid)
When I have something long to say, I tend to put a cut-tag after a very brief intro, so as not to clutter everyone's friends page. But I'm beginning to wonder whether I'm cutting them too short, and people aren't seeing those posts when they scan down the page. So, I was wondering...
