Recommendation

I don't usually promote products, but due to the intense heat I've been eating a lot of ice cream lately, and trying some new flavors... and I had to mention that the Godiva ice cream has been uniformly amazing. So far I've tried the Belgian Dark Chocolate Mint and Cappuccino with Chocolate Hearts... really creamy, great flavors, hard to stop nibbling (that's the bad part). I got it at Stop & Shop so it shouldn't be too hard to find. Again, I don't usually do this, but in case anyone else is looking for a good way to cool off, I thought it was only fair to share... :-)

I've been disappointed with B&J's since the company got bought. I much prefer the flavor of Godiva Dark Chocolate ice cream. Or, if that's not available, their chocolate ice cream bars dipped in chocolate.

A good ice cream that is *not* with the other pints in the Stop and Shops that carry it, though, is Dove. It has taken over for B&J's for me.

I do not like Dove at all.

Maybe I'll have to try the Godiva again, I tried it once when it first came out and really didn't think it was worth the insane price they were charging for it because it was "Godiva".

I'll take the homemade stuff over any commercial variety anyday as I am sure you would too.

The prices for Godiva have settled down since the initial introduction, though they do seem to have completely changed their flavor line, which is frustrating. Still, the prices are similar to B&J if not a little less.

My favorite ice creams are at Herrell's and Christina's and this small maple sugar shack in western MA that has real maple soft serve.

I agree that Herrell's and Christina's are best (though Tosci's isn't bad either).

I totally agree that non-packaged is better, but I like having something I can keep in the freezer for when I feel the need.

I haven't tried Dove plain ice cream, but I do love the bars (vanilla with milk chocolate... mmmmm).
