"Five things you may not know" meme

1. I can't stand anything greasy. Actually, let's split this into 2 parts. First, I can't stand greasy food. It's not unusual for me to pat pizza dry with a paper towel before eating it. I don't use margarine, salad dressing, or hummus. If I try to politely take a bite of something greasy I'll start gagging. On the plus side, I don't have to worry about my cholesterol level.

2. Second, I can't stand touching anything greasy. I wear dishwashing or surgical gloves for anything slimy, up to and including slicing potatoes. This has been since childhood. One of my earliest memories is of hiding behind some furniture in kindergarten so I wouldn't have to make animals out of clay.

3. I'm allergic to wool and very sensitive to lace or anything similarly scratchy. I've had my feet start itching through my socks from stepping on a wool rug. [livejournal.com profile] sdavido has basically purged all the wool from his winter wardrobe so I can hug him comfortably.

4. I'm very sensitive to light. If I'm driving into the sun, even wearing sunglasses and with the visor down, I have to squint my eyes almost shut to see the car ahead of me. On the other hand I have great night vision. I'm good at finding things in dark attics and basements. This is, depending who you listen to: because I have light blue eyes; because I spent so many years reading by flashlight; because I'm part cat; or because I'm secretly a vampire.
(Actually I'm sensitive to just about everything, but I don't want this to get monotonous.)

5. Everything I'm wearing has to match. Friends often check to see which accessories I'm wearing when they see me. I've been told that I'm actually incapable of not matching; I once wore what I considered to be a horribly clashing outfit to a Halloween party as a costume, but was told that it didn't really clash.

...because I spent so many years reading by flashlight...

This sounds interesting!

Just the usual reading under the blanket after you're supposed to be asleep... actually when my parents took the flashlight away, I developed the ability to read by the digital clock glow.

"I can't stand anything greasy."
Um... cars? Kinda hard to run a car without liquid dinosaur...

"Everything I'm wearing has to match."
Let's see here... Shirt--check! Pants--check! Socks--check! Cat--check! Sofa--check!

Well, that is a large part of why I never took a mechanic course...

And the sofa matching the cat is a coincidence! Really! :-)

I know what I know...

I know what a coincidence looks like when I see one, and sister, that ain't no coincidence. No sir-ee, Bob. ;-)

Oh, and all the mechanics are wearing exam gloves these days, so hurry up and sign up for that mechanics course. There's a lot of zen in engine maintenance.

The funny thing is I probably couldn't have done it on purpose!

And maybe I should look into a course someday. When I have time...

Wool

I'm allergic to everything on the outside of a sheep: wool and lanolin. My parents used to argue--"but it's extra virgin wool" "but it's only 3%". No matter, it always itched. Even if they didn't tell me, I knew.

Haven't tried lanolin AFAIK but I wouldn't be surprised it if made me itch too.
