A night at the movies

sdavido and I went to see Hitchhiker's tonight, along with angwantibo, browngirl, teddywolf, and tigerbright... so we had an all-LJ crowd. :-) (lucretia_borgia and sethg_prime were going to join us but weren't able to make it.) We thought it was a lot of fun. Not 100% true to the letter of the book, but it definitely captured the spirit. The effects were great, the casting was well-chosen, and the lines that weren't from the book blended in well. (And sdavido caught several cameos which fans of the original series should appreciate.) A fun evening on the whole, but if you don't get to see it right away getting it on DVD will probably suffice... there were only one or two scenes that really needed the big screen.

Neil agrees with y'all's assessment although he found the styles to be patchy and changed rapidly from scene to scene.

I could see that, but since they were shifting locations as well I wasn't much bothered by it.

How much of the books did it cover?

It was just the first book. And it covered the main parts of the plot, but there was a little splicing involved.

Do you think it's worth going to see it or should I wait for Netflix?

I'd say it's a time/money thing... if you have the time and money, it's fun to see it on that scale. If you're short on either, waiting for the DVD won't be terrible.
