Mixed emotions

As a tangent off the pre-Pesach cleaning frenzy, I just took apart my Arisia planning boards. When I was organizing the programming for the convention a few months ago, I really needed to be able to see everything at once. So after a bit of trial and error, I wound up with two big pieces of foam core (about 3' x 4') with thread grids on each side - rooms on one axis, times on the other. This was tremendously helpful in the organizing stages, as it's very difficult to hold about 300 program items, and their participants and moderators, in your head. (A fellow Noreascon committee member accused me at Boskone of trying to out-program the Worldcon. That was never my intention! There's just so many little rooms... must fill little rooms...) Since the convention ended, the grids have been leaning against a bookcase in our office. I kept thinking that I should take them apart, but since so many hours of work went into their creation, I haven't quite been able to bring myself to do it. But since we're using the Pesach cleaning as an impetus to clear through some random clutter, I knew this was the time. So now the boards are bare again. And I seem to be of two minds about it. On the one hand, there was a lot of stress involved in their creation; the con basically took over my life for several months, and I'm still not entirely caught up. On the other hand, it worked. And I love when things work. Oh, well... now [livejournal.com profile] sdavido can rearrange the bookcase they've been blocking, as he keeps saying he's been wanting to do. :-)

Don't know if I'd call it nostalgia, but I have two notebooks full of programming notes taking up precious shelf space over my desk. I don't know who could use them and I can't bring myself to throw them away ... yet.

From one who can truely sympathize...

I know exactly what you mean. It's hard to part with something you've put so much work into. If we had a cellar, the boards probably would have stayed around for a lot longer.

And, yes, if anyone can understand...!

The end of an era ;).

And you were there for its inception, too!

*hugs* You did a fabulous job.

Speaking of which, [livejournal.com profile] teddywolf and I were discussing Arisia last night. Do you know if we can bug Buzz about a musical guest, or is he wrapped up in wedding planning?

Thanks very much - I appreciate it!

I haven't spoken to Buzz lately, the latest I've heard is that he's been wrapped up in anti-legislation activism. I don't know if he's had time for much else beyond that. But if you want to bounce something off him, there's no harm in asking.

You never told me what you got stuck with for next year.

Undetermined... I've been kind of laying low. I am working on the Worldcon (early September), but I don't know what, if anything, I'll be doing for Arisia. I'm kind of torn between wanting to help and needing a break. If I do take something on it probably won't be anything major.
