Infection

My mom's computer has been infected by "malware alarm 2.1". She has Windows 2000 Pro. Any recommendations for the best way to get rid of it? Free would be nice but simple is most important. Thank you, O Smart People!

Avast! Antivirus works well, and is free. Bit of a resource hog when it's running, though.

Great, thanks! I'll pass it on.

I have it set to run at 4am. It's done before I wake up.

I use the anti-virus software from Grisoft. They have a free version for personal use.

For searching for spyware and adware, I use Ad-Aware from Lavasoft, free for home use.

Would you also recommend Avast?

Other Solutions are to make sure that she has the latest updates (Microsoft patches) for her Operating system and an anit-virus programand a cleaning disk from that program. A good program like zone alarm may help too. It is simple to use.

I fixed it for her last week, but thanks for the feedback.
