A quick update from Cincinnati... I'm tying up
sdavido's parents' phone line so I'm going to try and keep this short, but I wanted to let people know that I'm still alive. :-)
Flight out Tuesday was uneventful (aside from having to get up much too early). On the ride from the airport we saw a couple things go "splotch" on the windshield that the driver said were cicadas. Didn't see any live ones, though. We spent Tuesday afternoon doing errands and helping get ready for Shavuous.
Tuesday night, SD-'s brother N. and future sister-in-law F. came up to visit. My mother had sent some homemade blintzes along with us, so we had those with dinner. They were quite popular. Wednesday after lunch I showed N. & F. some invitation samples I had brought along for them to look at. They were able to narrow them down to one or two favorites before they had to head back out.
Thursday SD-'s aunt B. came for lunch, so we had a chance to visit with her, which was nice. Then Thursday night his friend S. came over and hung out with us until Shavuous was over, at which point we went out for ice cream. :-)
Today we had lunch at the ubiquitous bagel place with SD-'s cousin G. and got to catch up with her a little. Then we did a few more errands and came back to start getting ready for Shabbos, which starts quite late here (~8:30).
Along the way we kept looking for cicadas, as I still hadn't seen any, and was starting to muse about mass hallucinations. Supposedly they're more common in less-developed areas (there's been a lot of new construction near here). SD- was starting to tease me about my bug obsession. So when we got home we went for a walk until we found a really big tree. Close examination did reveal a couple of cicadas in amongst the leaves. So now I've seen them. The background chirping has been very noticeable but it had seemed weird that we weren't seeing the source.
Tomorrow SD-'s aunt H. is coming over to visit, and possibly Aunt B. and Uncle N. as well. We're supposed to see his friend W. on Sunday morning. Still have calls out to a couple of other friends but I'm not sure whether or not we'll be able to see them.
We'll be back in town Sunday night, so sometime in the beginning of the week I should be able to catch up on mail, posts, etc. Then life should calm down for a while, so I won't have much to report... but I will be able to do better at keeping up!
