We're back from Concertino! Read more... )

At this point I'm unpacked and pretty much caught up on e-mail, but I think I'd better call it a night so catching up on posts will have to wait 'til tomorrow. Hope you all had a good weekend!

Bug-ridden

I seem to be getting over (thankfully!) a 48-hour bug. I developed a sore throat Tuesday night, and woke up yesterday with a horrible cold. I managed to get through the day at work (with regular doses of medicine), but when I got home from work last night around 8:30 I basically fell into bed and stayed there. Barely pried myself out to change a couple hours later. Got absolutely nothing done, which was bad.

This morning I was still stuffy but not as fuzzy, and at this point, thankfully, I'm feeling almost like myself again. Still way behind on what I have to do, though... need to make something for the Concertino dinner, and do laundry, and pack, etc., etc. And sitting down to just check mail quickly has taken much longer than I meant it to, of course. Hopefully I can still get everything done somehow.

And this morning [livejournal.com profile] sdavido woke up with the level of cold I had yesterday, which has thrown him further off-schedule with what he needs to do... why do these things always strike at the worst times? (Although I suppose there is no good time, really.)

Oh well, at least it doesn't seem like something that'll linger...

We're spending this visit to Ohio, as we often do, trying to see as many people as we can! Today we had lunch with [livejournal.com profile] pandorahunter and [livejournal.com profile] ronyon, then went to visit Aunt H. with [livejournal.com profile] sdavido's brother N. (sister-in-law [livejournal.com profile] kiddr was sadly unable to come) and their parents. We then all returned home and had dinner with Aunt B. [livejournal.com profile] joecoustic came into town too, and we hope to spend some time with her tomorrow and/or Wednesday. Tomorrow night we're getting together with [livejournal.com profile] bug_mama and [livejournal.com profile] david_brenner. Wednesday night we're having dinner with cousin G. There are more people we'd like to see, and places we'd like to go, but since we're coming back Thursday it's hard to say how much we can fit in. We're trying, though!

(The only sad note is that Aunt H. - who is 92 and in a nursing home - was admitted to the hospital tonight, but we're praying it's something minor. We should know more tomorrow.)

Whew!

Been busy, just a quick update...

The Arisia resume (furniture needs, power requirements, et al) has been submitted to the hotel; hopefully I haven't left anything out!

I've baked and taken over to the hosting friend's freezer most of the desserts for my mom's party (2 cakes, 6 pans of squares, 6 kinds of cookies) - just the "centerpiece" cake left. I'm planning to do that the week before the party, hopefully it'll go smoothly.

Between the two projects I've been pretty consumed, I haven't really had time to answer social mail or read LJ posts since Tuesday night. I apologize for being out of touch, I'll try to catch up soon.

We're leaving to visit [livejournal.com profile] sdavido's parents tomorrow morning. We have a 6:30 a.m. flight (ugh!) so we have to get up pretty early... not sure whether or not it's worth going to bed tonight. If I have time after packing, etc. and still have energy I'll try to do a little LJ catch-up. If not, maybe while we're away, if there's time... we'll see.

Hope you are doing well!

We're going to Cincinnati! Sorry it took so long to figure out our plans, but [livejournal.com profile] sdavido just got the last details of his schedule for final exam week. We are going out the morning of Sun. Dec. 25, and returning the evening of Thu. Dec. 29. All you Ohio people who want to get together, let us know when you're available... hopefully we'll be able to see everyone! :-)

When last we met, my mother had invited me and [livejournal.com profile] sdavido to join her and some friends in Ogunquit, Maine for Shabbos, to celebrate his birthday. Read more... )

Today I went in to the store, then we went to a barbecue at the home of some friends, then I had an Arisia meeting... now I'm working on catching up. I really should get to bed soon. Hope you all had a great weekend!

We've been trying to decide what to do this weekend, because Saturday is [livejournal.com profile] sdavido's birthday, so we wanted to do something special. We considered getting together with some people we haven't seen in ages, but this seems to be a popular weekend for going out of town. Well, we can do that too...

My mother had made plans recently to go to Maine (Ogunquit) this weekend with some friends. We were talking about the arrangements, and she commented that the room she was getting was large enough that we could come too. Hmmmm. At first I didn't take the idea seriously, but I mentioned it to [livejournal.com profile] sdavido, and the more we talked about it, the more appealing it became. So, as of a couple hours ago, we've decided to spend Shabbos sharing a room with my mother. :-) (Fortunately we all get along!) It should be nice, though; I can't recall the last time we went someplace just to relax, and not to visit someone.

Tomorrow is going to be a bit rushed because as it happens, we both have dentist appointments, and we don't want to leave too late and hit traffic. But hopefully all will go smoothly, and we can enjoy a day or so of relaxation before rushing back home...

As you may have guessed by now, we're back from Cincinnati! This could easily get very long, but I'll try to summarize. Read more... )

I'm mostly caught up on e-mail, but haven't had a chance to read anyone's posts yet... but that will have to wait for tomorrow night, as I expect tomorrow to be quite busy, so I'd better call it a night. Hope you've all had a good week!

As you may have guessed by now, we're home. :-) We had a lovely trip to northern Ohio. (Didn't get to see [livejournal.com profile] sdavido's family as we were in Akron and they're in Cincinnati - midwest states are big! But we'll see them soon.) Sunday night we got together with S-'s friends G & A, and their two children; we haven't seen them since soon after our wedding, so it was nice to have a chance to catch up. Monday morning we did some exploring within walking distance of our hotel - namely, we went to a bookstore and a supermarket. :-) Fortunately we enjoy the same things.

Monday evening was my cousin B's wedding. We're happy and excited for her, of course, but it required a little mental adjustment because (1) she just turned 21, and (2) she's become much more religious recently. So last time I saw her, she was a belly-baring teenager, and this time she was reciting tehillim and marrying a guy in a black hat. Not that there's anything wrong with that, it was just a bit unexpected. Anyway... the wedding was lovely. The only downside was that the ceremony was outside, and the weather was in the 90s and humid. And of course everyone was dressed formally. I wound up sitting further back than I ordinarily would because I really wanted to be in the shade. But the rest of the evening went smoothly, and I got to chat with some cousins and such I don't ordinarily see. (Hey, [livejournal.com profile] gnomi, my half-stepcousin-once-removed A. was there too...)

This morning we went to my aunt's house for breakfast and a chance to see the family in a more casual setting. Then it was off to the airport; we got there early to make sure we could sit together (Airtran doesn't guarantee seats), but then the flight was delayed, so we wound up hanging around the gate area for almost 3 hours. At least we had brought stuff to read. Fortunately the actual flight went smoothly, and now we're back, catching up. If anyone wants further details, let me know!

I'll be away for a few days at the National Stationery Show, and may not have access to e-mail. I'll catch up with y'all when I get back...

Home again

We're back in Boston - yay! Flight home went smoothly, except there was a delay getting a jetway, and then a delay getting the luggage... so although we landed on time at 5 p.m., we didn't leave the airport until after 6. But we had a lovely evening with [livejournal.com profile] catalana, and got to take her out for some Boston ice cream. :-) Then home to comfort the cat, go through mail, etc.... might not actually unpack tonight. It'll probably take a couple days to catch up on everything but wanted to let everyone know we're home safe. Hope you're all having a pleasant end of the year! (Eeeek! How did it get to be December 30 already?)

Well. we're in Cincinnati, but it was looking for a while like we weren't going to make it here... Read more... )

Not sure whether I'll get to answer mail and read posts while we're here - I just had to post an update about our trip! But if not, I'll try to catch up when we get home. Hopefully the trip home will be nice and boring!
vettecat: (illustration)
Just a quick update so you know I haven't forgotten about you... I'm still fighting a cold, and managed to wrench my back during a coughing fit this morning (sigh), so it may take me another day or two to catch up on e-mail and such. But I wanted to post a quick update, at least. Read more... )
In a completely unrelated bit of trivia, I notice that while we were away LiveJournal passed 5 million users. So your math question for today is: If we graph time elapsed vs. members, how long will it be before LJ takes over the world? A prize may be awarded if you can prove your answer. (Trying not to obsess about the election tomorrow! Gulp.)

I had intended to post a long, entertaining story about my hunt for a Boston Globe this morning - some relatives in NJ wanted a souvenir of the Red Sox win, and I wound up spending over an hour going to something like a dozen places before I found any. (Who knew they would sell out so fast? Amusingly, there were plenty of extra Boston Heralds...) But I'm up too late packing (surprise!), have to get up early to catch our flight to OVFF, plus I think I'm fighting a cold... so I had better call it a night. I'll catch up on mail and posts when we get back. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Saturday night, [livejournal.com profile] sdavido commented that we should go out and do something fun... so we went to the supermarket. :-) (We went to the local Asian market as well as the "normal" supermarket, so there was an unusual element involved.) With our work schedules, side projects, and the recent spate of holidays, that's about as "out" as we've been lately.

But today we did something even more exciting! I arranged with my mother that I'd work the first 1/2 of today and she'd work the second, so we could each have part of Columbus Day to do something fun. So this afternoon SD- and I finally got to use the tickets we won at Noreascon for the Lord of the Rings exhibition at the Boston Museum of Science. Read more... )

On an unrelated note, someone pointed out that tomorrow is the deadline to register to vote in Massachusetts. If you haven't already done so, here's where you can register.
vettecat: (illustration)
After much deliberation, [livejournal.com profile] sdavido and I have decided that we're going to OVFF. Yay! It means we'll have to cut back elsewhere, but we didn't go last year, and there are so many people that we want to see... Hopefully we'll even get to talk to some of them! :-)
