Weekend in Worcester

We're back from Concertino! It was a lovely weekend on the whole; it was nice to have an opportunity to relax, visit with people, and listen to them sing.
The weekend got off to a bit of a stressful start because I had expected to pick my car up from the mechanic on Friday morning, and due to a series of unfortunate delays I didn't get it back until almost 3 p.m. This completely ruined my plan of getting to the con early to help with registration; what with picking up a few things we needed for the weekend, packing the last-minute items, loading the car, hitting rush-hour traffic, etc., we wound up not getting to the hotel until almost 7. Thankfully Shabbos is late this time of year, and registration didn't seem to have suffered from my absence.
We checked in with the convention and settled into our room (and exchanged anniversary presents), and shortly it was time for the Kosher Konspiracy dinner, which was delightful. Those in attendance included
ladymondegreen,
mamadeb,
jonbaker, and several other people whose account names I don't know. (Sadly
tigerbright and
teddywolf weren't able to make it.) We caught the end of a concert, spent the rest of the evening chatting with people (I could start listing LJ tags, but it would be a very long list) and listening to the open filk, and decided to call it a night at the early (by con standards) hour of 1 a.m.
While getting ready for bed, I walked by the bathroom and noticed that there was a puddle of water on the floor (which stopped short of the toilet). Odd... I went closer, and realized (since I had my shoes off) that the rug in front of the bathroom was wet as well. I called
sdavido over, and upon examination we realized that water was dripping out of the wall. Not good. Unfortunately since it was Shabbos we couldn't use the phone, so SD- went down to the lobby to tell them about it.
He came back a while later with the news that they were moving us to another room, since they didn't know how long it would take to fix the problem. Ok, fine, except... we had left a lamp on a timer clock, and the bathroom light on, and his laptop plugged in, and we had a mini-fridge full of food, and one of the Shabbos candles was still burning... and we couldn't do anything about any of that. Thankfully the bellman who came up to help us move our stuff was extremely understanding and accommodating, and was willing to take the steps necessary to duplicate our setup in the new room. (I found out from SD- later that the person at the night desk had been rather nasty about our predicament, but I didn't know that at the time.) By the time we were finished with the shift, though, we didn't wind up getting to bed until close to 4. Good thing we had decided to make it an "early" night...
As you might imagine, we were pretty tired in the morning, and wound up sleeping in later than we'd planned. Fortunately the programming started late so we didn't miss too much. SD- entered the songwriting contest (with the help of our new friend
lovensong87), and we spent the rest of the afternoon listening to music and visiting with friends.
After dinner we went down to the Interfilk auction, where SD- and
filkerdave took turns auctioning off the items. We had contributed a few things (a weird Al tribute record, an original Edison record cylinder, and a copy of our Wedding Project CD), and were pleased by the amount of interest and cross-bidding those generated. The items SD- was interested in wound up being bid out of our range, but I (with LS87's assistance) was able to get one of T's pretty hand-beaded bracelets.
We went by the dealer's room to pick up a few things, and then spent a couple of hours in the open filk. We decided to call it a night around 2 and went up to our room. (I needed to leave midmorning to be at work, so we didn't want to stay up too late.)
This morning we packed up and checked out, and headed back to town. I spent the afternoon at the store and SD- worked on his writing projects. Then we got together with LS87 for pizza and ice cream, taking advantage of the opportunity before she headed home.
At this point I'm unpacked and pretty much caught up on e-mail, but I think I'd better call it a night so catching up on posts will have to wait 'til tomorrow. Hope you all had a good weekend!
