We recently noticed that Scheherazade had a bunch of dark spots in one of her ears, and wanted to get her examined. The vet didn't have any open appointments on short notice, so I dropped her off there this morning to be looked at when there was an opportunity. (I don't like leaving her there alone, but I didn't want to wait a few days for an open appointment, either.) A little while later I got a call from the vet, diagnosing an ear infection. He asked permission to run a few related tests (which I agreed to), and I arranged to pick her up after work.
sdavido wanted to go with me, so I picked him up first, then we went over to the vet.
There were a few followup questions we wanted to ask, so they brought us (and her) into an examining room to wait for the vet. Scheherazade is usually very sweet-tempered, but hates going to the vet... even so, this was unusual. She was growling and snarling and hissing and spitting... she even swung a paw at me (with claws sheathed) when I tried to reach out to her. Her connections to her big-cat cousins were much more obvious than usual. When the vet came in, he did a short exam (in response to an unrelated question from us), but she was getting more and more agitated so we decided it wasn't that important, and took her home.
She was still growling a little in the car, but once we got home and let her out of the carrier, she quieted down. She did an immediate food/water/litterbox circuit. After that she was still jumpy for a while, but calmed down. A few minutes ago she came and sat in my lap. Yay!
Now we have to give her (chilled) eardrops twice a day... this is going to be fun. We just tried it for the first time, and SD- was fascinated to learn that she can flatten her ear all the way against her skull. I did get a few drops into her ear but didn't want to stress her too much more. Of course we get to do it again in the morning... hopefully she'll be able to tolerate it for the next few days.
