The recent meme (you've probably seen it) led me to focus, and realize that about 20% of the people on my friends list (that I know of) are abuse survivors. Very disturbing... and even more so if, as has been indicated, that's reflected in the wider population. It seems there should be a way to stop this from happening. Maybe the writer of the meme is right, and talking about it will make it less acceptable. We can hope.

25% of women have had unwanted sexual experiences - rape and / or childhood sexual abuse.

I'd have to look up the stats on child abuse. An embarassing admission, as I used to have them in my head.

I hope they're not any higher.

Actually, it depends on what you are counting. Physical abuse is no lower. Neglect is higher. Child sexual abuse is lower. See the Children's Defense Fund http://www.childrensdefense.org/childwelfare/abuse/fact_sheet.asp
