An autumn wedding

This afternoon
sdavido and I had the pleasure of watching
ladysprite and
umbran get married.
They were both radiant. L. wore an embroidered ivory gown, with her hair braided around her tiara. U. wore a tuxedo with cravat and morning-coat. The general theme of the wedding was "fall"; the bridesmaids were in gold and burgundy. I took a bunch of pictures, if they come out well I'll post a few.
The ceremony itself was a mixture of different traditions that drew from each's heritage. They wrote their own vows, and included a handfasting, and an exchange of traditional Latvian rings. The ceremony was short but heartfelt. It's wonderful seeing two people so happy together. (
tigerbright posted a wedding report as well, I'll try not to overlap too much...)
The reception colors continued the autumn theme, as did the wedding cake, which had two cute dragons on top of it. I got to make the groom's cake, a spice cake covered with fondant leaves. We weren't able to eat much at the reception (not kosher), but we'd eaten beforehand, and were just happy to be there and share in their joy. We did have some of the groom's cake, which everyone seemed to like. :-) And I got to take home a centerpiece... they were assigned to the woman with the heaviest purse at each table, and since I had brought my keyring, there wasn't much of a contest!
As the meal wound down, the dancing sped up. L. and U. danced a slow dance together at the beginning of the reception. Later on, they called all married couples to the dance floor, and gradually pared it down to the couple who'd been married the longest - 47 years! - who were given a bouquet and champagne. Very sweet. After dessert was brought out, the music switched to a faster tempo, and more people went out on the dance floor. We had to leave after a while so SD. could grade papers; L. and U. (and their parents) were still glowing when we said good-night.
It was a lovely wedding, and we wish them every happiness together - they're certainly off to a good start!
