Sigh...

I have jury duty tomorrow. I don't mind in the abstract, I know it's an important part of the justice system and all that... but... (1) I have to be there at the time when I'm usually just getting up; (2) it's in a part of town I really don't know (hope I can find it, and the traffic's not too bad); and (3) I don't like leaving my mom alone in the store, it's hard not having back-up if it gets busy. Oh well. Hopefully I'll get there on time, and won't have to stay there all day. At worst I'll have some time to read.

In other news, I think the Red Sox won their baseball game. (I'm really not into sports, for those of you who don't know.) I say this because for the past half-hour, we've been hearing monkey howls from outside, and car horns honking, and car alarms going off... and police sirens in the distance. I told [livejournal.com profile] sdavido that tonight I'm really glad we don't park on the street. I dearly hope that there isn't going to be a repeat of what happened when the Patriots won a big game last year, when people tipped cars over and set fire to them in the streets. I cannot comprehend why happiness equals destruction in some people's minds... can't they just jump up and down and hug each other?

But I should really get to bed (assuming the monkey howls quiet down). If I don't get to finish answering e-mail and posts tonight, I'll try to catch up tomorrow.

Jury Duty

Its not really that bad mostly... I got hit for Jury Duty the week of the DNC, and was really happy to have an excuse to be in Dedham for a week, instead of working in Southie.

My normal methods for getting out of jury duty didn't work, the game has changed. The 'we the people, not us the politicians (logo crossed M16s) didn't work. The case was interesting, and since I was excused half way thru, I don't even know the outcome.

No, it wasn't bad... my main worry was having to be in Chelsea at 8:30 a.m. Once I got past that it was fine. We were only there 'til 1:30, never got called out of the room. And my future sister-in-law, who just got called for jury duty in Kentucky, tells me there they have to go for 2 weeks. Makes me appreciate our system more!
