Back on the cushion

Just a quick update so you know I haven't forgotten about you... I'm still fighting a cold, and managed to wrench my back during a coughing fit this morning (sigh), so it may take me another day or two to catch up on e-mail and such. But I wanted to post a quick update, at least.
sdavido and I had a lovely time at OVFF. Got to see and chat with lots of people we haven't seen and chatted with in much too long, most of whom seem to have LJ accounts... but I'm not going to try and list them all. :-) And of course we heard lots of great music!
Friday night we had a quiet family dinner with SD-'s sister
joecoustic, brother N., and N.'s fiancee F.... and realized that may have been the first time we were all in the same room aside from major family events. That was a nice treat.
Saturday night was the annual OVFF Interfilk auction, which got a bit strange because the licensed auctioneer was ill, and we couldn't have a voice auction without him. A system was improvised wherein runners took written bids and relayed them to the "facilitator" onstage. I volunteered as a runner, and teamed up with
catalana and
gorgeousgary. After a bit of adjustment, the system seemed to work fairly well. The Igor Bars I brought went for $41; I had hoped they would go higher, but was pleased that the person who won them had been asked to make them by her husband, who wanted to try some, but she hadn't wanted to undertake the project. So everyone was happy. Amusingly, the copy of Thursday's Boston Globe that I brought, featuring the Red Sox win, went for $40...!
Sunday afternoon, after several rounds of goodbyes, we headed out to the airport. We got there with time to wander, but when we arrived at our gate we discovered that we hadn't been seated together. When we inquired about this, we were told that the flight was overbooked, and they were looking for volunteers to take a different flight and get in an hour later in return for a travel voucher. Hmmm... after a bit of discussion we decided to accept. An hour wouldn't make much difference, we can definitely find a use for the travel vouchers, and we'd get to sit together. :-) However, by the time they got through processing the paperwork, the other flight was about to leave... so the airline staffer literally ran ahead to the gate to make sure they'd let us on the plane. We just made it on. Whew!
But we got home OK, and all is well. Still have to finish catching up, unpacking, resetting watches, etc.... :-)
In a completely unrelated bit of trivia, I notice that while we were away LiveJournal passed 5 million users. So your math question for today is: If we graph time elapsed vs. members, how long will it be before LJ takes over the world? A prize may be awarded if you can prove your answer. (Trying not to obsess about the election tomorrow! Gulp.)
