People always underguess my age, but this one was a little extreme. A new customer asked today whether my mother and I are related. We explained the relationship, and my mother followed up with, "how old do you think she is?," referring to me. It can be fun seeing how much people are off by. But this woman said, "12? 13?" I must have looked shocked, because she revised it and said, "Okay, 21." When I told her I'm 34, she thought I was joking - my mother had to back me up. And this was with make-up.

sdavido has joked that I can't visit him at work because people will think he's dating a student. Between my looking younger and his looking older (due to the gray in his beard), it might seem that there's more than a year between us. But it's really scary to consider that someone could think that...

I think she hadn't really been paying attention because she was working with my mom, not me. Generally, people who meet me but don't talk to me underguess my age, and people who talk to me but don't meet me (e.g. online) guess high...
