I got an answer back from Stop & Shop regarding the note I sent last night. Here's what I sent:
My husband and I went to the supermarket tonight, and were very surprised to see that all the Passover food is on display, as Passover falls in mid-April this year. Nobody is going to want to buy any Passover food for another month. We spoke to the manager about it, and he said the instructions came from the main office. We thought you might want to know that you're way ahead of the calendar this year, so you can use that space for something else in the meantime.

And here's what I got back:
Thank you for letting us know about this. I have forwarded your comments to the department that would handle the Kosher products. I know they will look into this.

So, we'll see what happens... but at least we know they read their mail!

A good rule of thumb for them would be to wait until Purim, and then put out the Passover food. I wonder if they made the mistake of seeing Purim Katan on a calendar and thought it was the same thing.

Perhaps. Or they might just assume it's around Easter.

Well, Passover does coincide with Easter this year. It's just that it coincides with the Orthodox Easter (May 1), and not the Catholic or Protestant one (March 27)...

You're most likely correct about how they came to their decision to put out the Passover food. What's weird is how Easter is closer to Purim this year...

Not weird at all. Purim is exactly a month before Erev Pesach. We're having a leap year this year, as are the Eastern Christians, while the Westerners are not having their leap year till next year. So the Western Easter is exactly a month early, which puts it right at Purim. Next year, the Westerners will have a leap year, we won't (having already had ours), and we'll be back in synch.

And of course the Pesach food comes out at Easter. That's why Balticon has matzah in the con suite; Balticon is an Easter con, even if it happens to be on Memorial Day.

I'm sure it makes sense to anyone who doesn't know the calendars aren't the same.

Maybe the Easter Bunny will hide little shalach manot baskets!
