[livejournal.com profile] sdavido and I went to visit my mother at the hospital tonight. Driving there was awful, but we both couldn't imagine not going. Have I mentioned lately how much I love my husband? And we were really glad we went - she was very happy to see us, and seems to have made a lot of progress. She'll probably be going home in another day or two.

Driving home was also awful. I'm not sure what was worse, the messy roads or the almost total lack of visibility. (Actually, I think the latter was worse.) But we did OK 'til we got to our driveway... and I couldn't get up the hill. There was too much snow at the bottom.

So I went around the block and tried to come in from the other side, but couldn't get in that way either. After a bit of back-and-forth (both mental and physical), [livejournal.com profile] sdavido went and got a shovel, and cleared out a space on the street for me to wiggle the car into. Since we have a resident permit the car should be OK there - I'm just praying nobody slides into it during the night.

While we were finishing with our space, one of our neighbors came home, and tried to get into the driveway... and got stuck. So [livejournal.com profile] sdavido went over with the shovel and helped her gradually fight her way into the parking lot, at which point her husband came out and the two of them helped her get into her space. We were all pretty well snow-soaked by this point - the wind was really whipping it around.

But we got home safe, and are now dry. We'll just have to get up a little early in the morning to go check on our car... I'm hoping that the plows will have (a) cleared the street, and (b) not totally plowed us in, so I can get to the store in time to open it. (Assuming, of course, that the parking lot there has been plowed, too...)

When is Spring, again?

Very glad your mom is doing better.

We thought about going out last night, but decided driving was probably not the best of ideas. This turned out to be a wise plan, as the kitchen window blew open and filled up with snow, and Wolf had to use the hairdryer on it so we could close it again.

The snow had packed in along the inside edges of the frame, where the window swings back to in order to latch it shut. I cleared away a lot of the snow by hand my poor cold fingies but also did some hairdryer work.
