This weekend we went to Cincinnati for [livejournal.com profile] sdavido's brother N's wedding to the lovely [livejournal.com profile] kiddr. I'm up too late catching up from the trip (of course) but I'll try to summarize.

Our flight Friday was uneventful. On reaching the Cincinnati airport in Kentucky (really), we learned that the person picking us up was also picking up a couple other people coming in for the wedding. Which made sense, except by the time they landed and found their baggage, etc., we had been there for almost an hour, and we were getting a little worried about Shabbos. After dropping off the other people at the hotel, we then hit rush-hour traffic en route to SD-'s parents' house. But the timing worked out. SD- tried on his tuxedo, which had a bunch of annoying little problems.

We then went to cousin G's house. We spent Shabbos with her, since she lives closest to the shul, and we wanted to go to the aufruf. (Translation: The groom is called to the Torah before the wedding, in honor of the occasion.) On the whole, it was very pleasant, and we enjoyed spending some time with G. Unfortunately I got lost on the way to shul in the morning so I missed the actual aufruf. But I did find it eventually, and was amused by the number of people who came up to me and SD- at the kiddush to congratulate us on our upcoming wedding. :-)

Saturday night we went back to SD-'s parents' house to keep N company so he wouldn't be alone all night. (Everyone else was already at the hotel.) We also went over some last-minute details with him, to try and make sure everything would go smoothly.

Sunday morning the three of us went out to the hotel. I had my hair done (the hairdresser had to improvise, as she hadn't realized how long my hair is, but it seemed to turn out well) and chatted (too briefly) with [livejournal.com profile] joecoustic, and then we all changed and headed down for the photos. (I took a bunch, too - if there's interest maybe I'll post a couple.) Everyone looked wonderful, and it was a nice opportunity to meet [livejournal.com profile] kiddr's family.

After the photos, we headed upstairs for the ketubah signing, and then back down again for the ceremony, which was lovely. It was wonderful to watch them together, and to see the happiness in their eyes. I'm just sorry I didn't really get pictures of it (I was up front, and the person I gave the camera to must have been too caught up in what was happening to use it) but I'm sure lots of other people did.

During the hors d'oeuvres, I chatted with a cousin of kiddr's who has a particularly neat business - check out BookThing. Then we went in to the reception. The happy couple had arranged for several people to do readings, which was a nice touch, and SD- gave a warm, funny, heartfelt speech which he'd written that morning. :-) After the meal people kept dancing until the DJ left. By the time everything wound down and everyone had said good-bye, we were pretty tired, so we headed back to our room and quickly fell asleep.

Today we spent the morning packing up, and helping SD-'s parents pack up the leftover wedding stuff. We shared a van to the airport with kiddr's mother and some friends, which made the ride go by quickly. On arrival at the airport SD- discovered that he hadn't put his license back in his wallet after going through security Friday. Ooops! Fortunately he had enough other IDs that they still let us through. (And he found his license after we were on the plane, thankfully.)

We were there pretty early so we sat and read until it was time to board. At which point they announced that our plane was being given to another flight which had been delayed, and we needed to go to another gate. We all tromped down there to find that the air conditioning on that plane needed to be repaired. Eventually we did get on the plane. Then there was another delay, which turned out to be due to their having misplaced someone's dog. Not good. After a while the dog was located and we were able to take off.

We got into Boston about an hour late, and were very relieved when we arrived home. We had been invited out tonight, but were feeling kind of limp at that point, so SD- called to extend our regrets. We had planned to go to bed early tonight, but of course I got distracted... I really should call it a night.

Sorry this is kind of terse but my batteries are kind of low right now. It was a wonderful weekend, though, and it's nice to have such a wonderful new relative.

Aha! I hadn't connected the username to the person before. :-) It was great to see you, too! Sorry we didn't really get to talk, but maybe we'll run into each other locally.

It is cool, isn't it? Glad you liked it. It was a nice bonus to learn about that while talking to a random stranger over hors d'oeuvres. :-)

Oh yeah, sleep, I knew I was forgetting something...
