See how long you can survive as a Third World Farmer... (click on the bullseye at lower right to try it) My best score so far is 415 points, in 28 rounds.

Deval Patrick got sworn in as Governor (and we were able to watch it, a bit fuzzily, on a Watchman we have at the store).

A customer sent me flowers (for doing something that I felt was no more than my job, but it's nice to be appreciated).

And G-d willing we may have news to share soon (if all goes well for the next couple weeks).

The Onion summarizes the election results...

(Got up early yesterday to take [livejournal.com profile] sdavido downtown so he wouldn't strain his arm with all the papers he had to hand back, got up early today to vote together and give him a ride in, drove out to Franklin tonight... gee, I wonder why I'm tired...)

Felt I needed to share a powerful editorial about the situation in the Middle East...

(Don't ask me to answer questions about how to resolve this, please. I don't know. If I did, I'd be doing something about it.)

But maybe now it'll get more attention.
vettecat: (Fluff)
I just wrote to Senator Barrios to ask him to stop his ridiculous campaign against Fluff. (See here and here.) Some things just cannot be tolerated...

Tonight we went with our friends M & B (and their friend C) to see An Inconvenient Truth. I don't know if it would be entirely accurate to say that I enjoyed it, since it was rather disturbing, but it was brilliantly done. I would strongly encourage you to go see it, both because I think it should be seen, and because high ticket sales may raise awareness that people do care about this issue. (Though based on current movie rankings, it's getting a lot of attention.)

It also made me desperately wish, once again, that the 2000 decision had come down in favor of Al Gore... (sigh)
vettecat: (hmph!)
George Bush is a nincompoop.
On the other hand, this is a really good editorial. Yay Globe!
vettecat: (blue eye)
Some of you may have seen this already, but for those who haven't... imagine that Gore had won the decision in the 2000 election, and then watch this clip from Saturday Night Live...

[livejournal.com profile] sdavido wanted to go to the BU Bookstore last night, so we headed out to Kenmore Square. But we hadn't realized there was a Red Sox game until we started seeing "Park here!" and "Parking full" signs... oy. So I dropped him off and went snaking around traffic through the back streets. Took me less than 10 minutes to find a space, only about a block from the bookstore. It helps when you're from the area, as opposed to just coming in for the game. :-)

In other news, I took SD- in to work this morning because I wanted to sit in on the guest speaker he had arranged for his political science class: Michael Dukakis. SD- hadn't been 100% sure whether he was coming, but I wanted to try going just in case. He agreed to let me come at the last minute on the condition that I stay in Deep Wallpaper mode - which was difficult at times when I wanted to ask MD to expand on something, or when he was asking questions I knew the answers to, but since he was there to talk to the kids I stayed quiet. I still very much enjoyed hearing him talk, though. He's so nice, and he cares so much about helping people and doing the right thing. It's reassuring to know there are still politicians like that... at least, we can hope there are. Couldn't help but ponder how different things would have been if he had won, though... (Massachusetts seems to produce candidates that are intelligent, conscientious, competent, and not at all telegenic. Dukakis, Tsongas, Kerry... apparently the rest of the country has different priorities. Oh well.)

The Boston Globe has assembled a list of all the laws Bush is ignoring. I think the man honestly believes he's been elected king instead of president. We can only pray that now that the extent of his overreaching has come to light, someone will actually do something about it...

This is kind of interesting... a group is collecting signatures to try and put an initiative on the 2006 ballot that would prevent state National Guard troops from being deployed without the consent of the state legislature. I'm not sure if I'm going to be anywhere I can collect signatures, but if you're interested, here are the details. )

Someone forwarded this account of two people who were trapped in New Orleans by the hurricane, I thought it was worth passing on... Read more... )

Mitt Romney is an idiot. I had been figuring we'd just ignore him until his term was up, but I'm beginning to wonder if a governor can be impeached...

For those who haven't seen this yet - Canada approves same-sex marriage

I sometimes am really tempted to move there, but it's so far away... :-)

A congressman is trying to make it illegal for the National Weather Service to freely distribute their forecasts because it's unfair competition for the services that charge. (Just when you think people can't get any stupider...) More info, and links to a petition, are on this post. Please circulate, this is something everyone should know about.
